Beckie is a self-taught artisan perfumer with over a decade of experience in blending and crafting unique, custom fragrances. With a passion for pushing creative boundaries and exploring the intersection of art and scent, she is the visionary behind CŪRATA’s unparalleled natural perfumes.
"Fashion led me to scent. Perfume, like fashion, is the creation of fantasy. The nature of scent evokes magical, intimate experiences, instantly transporting the wearer on an emotional journey. I was captivated by the mystique of perfume and drawn to understand how to create such elixirs. I began by seeking out aromatics, building a perfumer’s organ, and immersing myself in the process—smelling, journaling, and discovering the layers of synchronicity between notes.
From there, I delved into books on perfume construction, history, and the industry. Along the way, I encountered the belief that perfumes made solely from natural ingredients would lack complexity and depth. This challenged me to explore naturals and prove otherwise.
My journey evolved into designing perfumes exclusively with natural ingredients, creating innovative formulas, and developing proprietary techniques. Over time, I’ve come to deeply believe that beautiful, full-bodied perfumes can be achieved using only naturals. It is this artistry and passion that speaks through my work."
Serena is a seasoned international hospitality and wellness leader, whose career has spanned four continents and fifteen countries. During a consulting mandate with an all-natural skincare brand, she delved deeply into the world of non-toxic beauty. It was there that she uncovered the enigmatic and often misleading nature of "fragrance" or "parfum," even in products marketed as "clean" and "natural." This revelation, combined with her deep fascination with sensorial experiences, ignited her journey into the realm of natural scent.
While staying at the majestic La Mamounia hotel in Marrakesh—surrounded by the intoxicating sweetness of orange blossoms, the refreshing zest of mint tea, and the indulgent aroma of marzipan-infused milk—Serena was captivated by a question: Could these evocative scents be authentically recreated using only natural aromatics? This pivotal moment marked the beginning of her quest to unveil the opulence, intimacy, and transformative power of natural fragrances.
Lacking formal training as a perfumer, Serena sought an expert "nose" who shared her vision of harmonizing nature and scent. After numerous introductions, she connected with Beckie Sheloske, a natural perfumer renowned for her talent, dedication, and boundless creativity. Together, they embarked on a transformative journey of discovery and artistry, redefining the essence of perfume through their shared vision—a vision that would ultimately come to life as CURATA.
