Is it possible to be an unapologetic bon vivant and still live sustainably?
Can we indulge in less and better instead of just more?
These questions were at the heart of a recent Eco Sessions event I had the pleasure of joining in Toronto — aptly titled Sustainable Decadence.
Redefining Ethical Indulgence: A Shared Conversation
At the event, I had the honour of speaking alongside brilliant, values-driven founders — Nadine Woods of Myana, Sammi Smith of Soft Focus, and Mariane Oliveira of Mary’s Brigadeiro — each redefining what it means to live well and ethically.
Their stories offered a beautiful range of perspectives on what it means to create consciously luxurious products:
-
Mariane, inspired by her love of Brazilian brigadeiros, reimagined the nostalgic treat using fair-trade cocoa and local suppliers — ensuring they’re both delicious and responsibly made.
-
Nadine, pregnant and unable to find ethically made luxury lingerie for real women’s bodies, launched her own inclusive and sustainable line.
-
Sammi, after years in fast fashion, created a line of sustainable loungewear that balances ease, beauty, and low-impact living for the work-from-home generation.
As for me? I’ve always been driven to push boundaries — especially in scent. I believe in creating timeless, sensorial moments rooted in clean beauty and sustainable fragrance.
The CŪRATA Philosophy: Botanical Perfume for the Conscious Consumer
Like these founders, I turned to what I knew — a background in spa culture, wellness, and plant-based skincare — and asked: How can this be better?
The result is CŪRATA: a collection of botanical perfumes that are as indulgent as they are intentional.
At CŪRATA, sustainable decadence isn’t a tagline — it’s our foundation. Since day one, our mission has been to deliver fragrance experiences that are elegant, immersive, and low-impact.
What Does Sustainable Decadence Really Mean?
Can something feel truly luxurious and still be sustainable?
The answer: yes — but it takes intention.
Here’s what sustainable fragrance looks like in action at CŪRATA:
-
Clean, non-toxic, biodegradable formulas safe for people, pets, and planet
-
Plant-based botanical ingredients, free from synthetics and harmful chemicals
-
Plastic-free or low-waste packaging, prioritizing glass, metal, and recyclable paper
-
FSC®-certified paper and non-toxic, biodegradable inks
-
Strong relationships with specialty suppliers for ethical sourcing and transparency
-
Ethical business practices rooted in fair trade, accountability, and human dignity
We do the work behind the scenes — verifying suppliers, auditing materials, and calling out greenwashing — because in the world of natural perfume and clean beauty, integrity matters.
Luxury and Sustainability Are No Longer Opposites
The truth is: when done with intention, luxury and sustainability don’t just coexist — they elevate each other.
At CŪRATA, we believe in:
-
Slow, thoughtful formulation
-
Radical transparency
-
Uncompromising quality
-
And a desire to delight the senses without harming the planet
This is our version of ethical fragrance — one that uplifts you, while protecting the world we share.
The Future of Ethical Scent Is Already Here
This is a call to our generation of founders, makers, and wearers:
To build purpose-driven brands that go beyond the buzzwords — and actually do better.
You deserve fragrance experiences that are worry-free, immersive, and rooted in care.
At CŪRATA, every scent is crafted to bring you unapologetic opulence with a clear conscience.
We’re not building an alternate model.
We’re redefining what beauty, business, and luxury can look like — and feel like — when done right.
Until the next experience,
Serena Rogers
